The lore (i advise you to skim)
I've been running Dog Knights since 2010, with our two imprint labels 'Good Job, Dog Knights! & Left Hand Label forming around ten years later. Over these 16 years, we've put out approximately 260 releases + represses with the sheer majority released on vinyl. And during that time, we've encounted some true label-horrors with occasional returns for defective items or damage from shipping orders to our customers; regular (practically with every single delivery) damage with shipments directly from the plant; entire boxes of excess stock suffering weather damage (leaks, damp, heat, cold - we have it all in the South of the UK!) and even a few entirely defective pressings - such as our infamous MASS OF THE FERMENTING DREGS (emo/indie - GJDK) - AWAKENING:SLEEPING pressing on 180 gram black vinyl that had scratches in the same location on practically every single copy, or the HAWAK (screamo - LHL) - NUOC first pressing on gold swirl vinyl that were pressed through an awful company with constant skipping and other confusing quality issues - leaving us with boxes upon boxes of records that can only be categorised as 'DEFECTIVE & UNSELLABLE' that have been taking up more and more space over these 16 years, waiting for me to finally land on a cool idea to repurpose/recycle them and to not simply throw boxes and boxes of plastic away...
...until now! Since i got back from 5 1/2 months of travelling around Japan, South Korea & SE Asia (this is important, not a brag, i'll come back to this later), with the help of my brother, i devised a system to produce the first 100 of these 'highly collectible' recycled vinyl 'coasters' in our mum's shed just before winter is officially here where i won't be able to make as many.
You can call (and use) them (as) coasters, but they're extremely cool and desirable in the flesh and you might have other ideas for displaying these in your house or alongside your record collections, so they're going to be packed into resealable baggies w/ grading sticker for you to keep and display, file away, gift (hey, Christmas is on the way, the timing is intentional, i'd love to receive one of these from a loved one this year, lol) or to trade with friends.
Although it's depressing to have this mountain of vinyl records that should have been sold at full price over the years, to instead be cut up (dangerous) and drilled (also dangerous and the drill press cost a lot of money) and sanded (not fun) - taking us around 20 minutes to create each one and practically be given away for free. But i'd rather give them away for just £1 if you purchase £30 of Dog Knights // Good Job, Dog Knights! // Left Hand Label releases - which comes to approximately TWO LPS (!!!). Aside from these unsellable records taking up loads of space, we're also storing far-too many perfectly sellable records from amazing bands, stuck inside boxes and desperately need to make space and raise funds for upcoming projects. This feels like a nicer way to attempt to achieve that goal.
2027 is very-likely going to be the most surreal for me in terms of dream-level projects, or, if you've followed me/Dog Knights over the years you might be familiar with my 'passion projects' term. Throughout my travels in Japan, i managed to make so many incredible projects happen with bands that i've worked with before; bands i've been dying to work with since the beginning and some bands that i'd never heard of before that trip. These are going to be very expensive and there are no guarantees that they'll be loved as much as i do outside of Japan. But within Japan, all of them are highly respected and should have a large enough of a following internationally. But i'm going to have to raise extra funds for promotion aka the devil and distribution to make sure that enough people discover all of these passion projects of mine and to do right by my heroes.
So, if you support us by picking up a couple of our many releases, you'll get a nifty vinyl coaster/circular plastic trading card for £1 and help us and the label's future in many other ways.
tl'dr 1
We had boxes upon boxes of unsellable records from over the past 16 years of being an active label. We've recycled them into highly collectible recycled vinyl coasters, which you can get for just £1 when you buy two (approx) DK/GJDK/LHL releases from us.
How to actually order:
- add £30 of our releases to your cart (all releases with DK, GJDK or LHL in the title are included)
- use the code ONEPOUNDCOASTER before you checkout
- you'll then be able to add a £6.66 coaster to your cart for £1
- checkout and wait for your order to arrive
- show off on socials, tag us and you'll get a discount on your next order
- if you don't love the coaster that you receive, you can attempt to trade with someone else :')
Other important notes
- these coasters are distributed randomly... but you can make some requests. contact us on socials or via email with your favourites. we can at least intend to give you an 'emo coaster' if you purchase emo records or a 'screamo coaster' if you order heavier releases
- if you want to support us by buying one for full price @ £6.66 then i'm sure we can let you choose your coaster...
- if you're one of our wonderul regulars and already own practically all of our releases, then reach out to us directly and we'll work something out and allow you to purchase merch or distro titles instead
- if you order over £60 or £90 or £120 we'll give you two or three or four coasters and reach out to you via email to let you choose a couple of them
- it will be easy to see if you don't follow the rules ^ and refund any additional coasters in your cart
- if you order an emo coaster, there's a strong chance that you'll receive a MASS OF THE FERMENTING DREGS - AWAKENING:SLEEPING (defective pressing) // I LOVE YOUR LIFESTYLE - THE MOVIE (shipping disaster) // I LOVE YOUR LIFESTYLE - NO DRIVER (weather disaster) since we have so many of them, but we do have some very nice CHINESE FOOTBALL - WIN&LOSE, QUITE QUIET - A TRIP TO NOWHERE (one of the nicest ones btw) and more...
- if you order a screamo coaster, there's a strong chance that you'll receive a HAWAK - NUOC (defective pressing) // ASUNOJOKEI - AWAKENING (we received extra A/B discs, most of them with large chips/dents), but we do have a piles of GOSEPL - THE LOSER // GOSPEL - THE MAGIC VOLUME (about a box of unsellable copies from weather disasters) and even a handful from SUIS LA LUNE and BORIS!
tl'dr 2
Add £30 of DK titles to your cart, use a code and get a vinyl coaster given to you at random for £1. Send us requests and we'll see if it's possible, or buy one at £6.66 instead.
Thank you supporting us on this project!
--------------
Please Note You may experience minor skipping which is normal—as per the Dog Knights return policy 'one or two skips/pops/occasional light surface noise' does not constitute 'faulty'. Remember to read up about 'tonearm weight settings' if you experience any skipping. If you feel that you're experiencing a major issue with your copy, then contact us via email with a video of the sounds you're hearing and we might be able to reach a compromise and/or exchange copies depending on the severity.
Refunds Policy Refunds should only be issued with a legitimate excuse. Changing your mind shortly after a purchase can cause multiple issues for small businesses. If you cannot be dissuaded, then also accept you will lose approximately 5% of the total order value due to non-refundable PayPal/card processing fees. These are our clear terms and conditions and there will be no exceptions. Please understand that we or our bands can’t be expected to actually lose money as a direct result of a customer changing their mind.
We will of course refund all fees in the event of us overselling an item, if we ship you the wrong item, or a faulty/defective product which cannot be replaced. We package our records with great care and promise to work out a solution if anything arrives seriously damaged, but please do not request a full refund for something minor, such as a tiny corner ding or a single pop/skip etc.
Email info@dogknightsproductions.com if you have any concerns before or after placing an order.
Thank you!
